Each city articulates the narrative by incorporating puppetry, object theater, paper mechanics and living sculpture. Invisible Cities is a conversation between Kublai Khan and his emissary Marco Polo. Even as the Khan feels his empire eroding beneath him, Marco Polo forms the slipping sands into the cities of the emperor’s dreams, weaving tales of empire like Scheherazade in Arabian Nights.

The Nimbus Arts team will be rolling up in the Nim-Bus Mobile Art Studio with plenty of socks, doo-dads, eyeballs, felt, feathers, yarn, and other assorted materials needed to create a one-of-a-kind sock puppet. This is a “hands-on” workshop for the whole family.

We have all the fixings for encouraging your finger puppet creative play- some simple easy designs for little hands and some finger puppets a little more complicated for those with more dexterity. Felt, faux fur, googly eyes, sparkly jewels, pompoms, crystals, pipe cleaners and much, much more. You can create a character from your favorite book, or a butterfly, or a furry, fuzzy monster! The sky’s the limit.

Tim Giugni was born in St. Helena, California before dirt was invented and then in 5th and 6th grade forced to be on stage by his teachers Burke and Cole. Then he toured through the US and the rest of the world, doing many exciting things, mostly with puppets. He has an Emmy, someplace, and a host of other awards that you’ve likely never heard of. He is the current Artistic Director for Teatro Calamari.

Explore the joy of puppet performance with Lee Armstrong. This workshop is part demo and part “hands-on” puppetry and focuses on the question “What do you do once you have a puppet on your hand?”
It’s ideal for newish puppeteers, actors, teachers, librarians, youth group leaders and teens interested in the art of puppet performance. You’ll leave this workshop with more confidence and skill in your puppet performance!

Ms. Armstrong is the recipient of two regional Emmys, as a producer/writer and puppeteer and 6 national Tellys. TV puppeteer credits include 10 years on Canadian network TV, 3 years on Henson’s original Fraggle Rock, all IIM productions, numerous PBS shows and commercials. Film credits include Being John Malkovich, Monkeybone and more. She has taught workshops for thousands of people, in schools, libraries, colleges, national, regional and local Puppet Festivals, and was Lecturer in the Theater Department UCSC teaching “The Art of Jim Henson and the Muppets”.
